How the Memorial Stones Will be inscribed:

Birth Places we ascribe, are commonly recognised town-lands, parishes and localities in County Sligo. They are drawn mainly from the men’s surviving Attestation Forms, from their own written wills, and from the census forms of 1901 & 1911. These areas cannot be 100% definitive given the many discrepancies that exist in the historic records of the period. However we believe this arrangement of names on the Sentinel Stones best reflects the localities with which people would have wished to be identified.

Birth Places are organised alphabetically. The names of Sligo people who died in the Great War 1914-1918 are then listed alphabetically within each district.

This is the proposed method for presenting the names on both sides of eight granite sentinel stones that will form the centerpiece of the memorial garden.

AdditionAL iNFORMATION ON bECOMING A Name Benefactor

Names marked with (NB) have received Name Benefactor Support. Our target is to secure a Name Benefactor for each person who will appear on the Great War Memorial Garden Sentinel Stones.

Individual names can be supported several times. If the name you wish to support already has a benefactor please do reselect this name at checkout regardless. You will be a benefactor for your chosen name along with others who have chosen that name and additionally we will also allocate a second name against your support.
